Books Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression
Digital Life Brooke Shields Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Down Came the Rain
I thought it was incredibly courgeous of her to tell her story. I think read it too soon after my diagnosis of severe Postpartum Depression. Too many of the things she experienced followed my own thoughts. It dragged up so many BAD memories that I had to stop reading it.
I would definitely suggest those who have suffered from ITs and other thoughts of that type not to read it right away. Wait until you are in a better place.
It really is a wonderful book. It is well written, and it captures the illness well. I just am warning those still suffering to be cautious.

Good luck to all of those dealing with PPD.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - postpartum depression
I found Brookes book on postpartum depression a frank and honest account on this misunderstood illness. I too suffered post partum depression and found Brookes book to be enormously helpful by placing names on the emotions I was feeling. I no longer felt so alone and as guilty for feeling the way I did. I hope to pass the book onto my friends and relatives so they too can gain a greater understanding on what women go through when what should be the most wonderful time in your life comes crashing down.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Thank God for Brooke Shields
This is one of the best books on tape that I have ever purchased. Brooke narrated so beautifully and cadidly. There are so many women who have gone through postpardum depression and never talk about it for fear of being judged. I just want to thank Brooke for sharing her own personal story and helping women not to feel alone and for some, helping them to seek the guidance they need in order to get better. The story is heart wrenching, but humorous, raw and real. Thank you to all the mothers out there for what you endure and for the love you give to all your children.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Brooke Shields very courageous
I'm so glad this book was written. Brooke Shields is very courageous to come out and speak up on the not very popular subject of post partum depression. She actually inspired me to talk, talk, talk about my horrible experiences with this condition. I was left high and dry by medical professionals that either had no clue how to treat me, did not take me seriously, or refused to treat me because I DIDN'T HAVE MEDICAL INSURANCE AT THE TIME! (Yes folks it really is true. I couldn't afford to pay out of pocket so I was refused treatment.)

I am sure that this subject is getting alot more attention because of this book. People are beginning to realize how very serious this condtion can be. And the brand new babies with these compromised moms are at risk! Moms need support, whether it's their first or 5th or 50th child. Moms need even more support when they have PPD.

They used to say "It takes a village to raise a child." Well, in today's society our village has disappeared. Women need to know how to take care of themselves and not be afraid to ask for help. Medical professionals need to learn how to treat this condition and not turn women away because of financial reasons.

Although my PPD is now finally gone, I still have much anger over how I was treated by medical "professionals". There is an urgent need for education of medicos so no one is denied treatment ever again. I will not stop speaking about PPD until changes are finally made that are desperately needed.

Bravo to B.S. for writing this book!!!
