Product Description:
Here's a new twist on the old story of being stranded on a desert island. In Down to Earth, a boatload of sanitarium patents become castaways on a deserted shore. It's no tragedy, though. It's all happening according to plan: a strange scheme hatched by our hero, Douglas Fairbanks! This film is a perfect example of the pre-swashbuckling Fairbanks, the all-American man of action and good cheer, who could confront any challenge, from starvation to a broken heart... and come up smiling.

It's an unusual adventure, and it winds up with a remarkable climax. (You've never seen a fight scene like this one before!) Written by the reliable team of Anita Loos and John Emerson, and produced by Doug's own company, this is a witty, delightful fable that stands among the best films of its day.

The musical score is by the ragtime-era composer George L. Cobb, as arranged and performed by Frederick Hodges.

BONUS: Charley Chase stars in A Ten-Minute Egg (1924). PLUS: The all-killer, no-filler action climaxes of Fairbanks' first film, The Lamb (1915) and the rip-snortin' Wild and Woolly (1917). Musical scores for each by Frederick Hodges. An Unknown Video release.

These earlier films, which were mostly light comedies of various sorts, have been sadly neglected in our day, so it is of special interest when one of them is released on DVD, such as this one. "Down to Earth", made in 1917, reveals a very different actor from the stereotyped roles of the 1920s with whom modern audiences might feel more comfortable due to his more natural manner. In fact, unlike his enthusiastic pantomime acting style in later films, in "Down to Earth" he seems to be his natural self, without any forced or controlled acting, and his exuberant personality drives ...
