Rose Marie This story line of this version is different from the original Broadway production - the later bland remake was closer to the original , but this is the version that I will always love and enjoy. The melodies are timeless regardless of the story line.
One interesting note is that Allan Jones had a brief appearance in this film in an opera production segment. He sang a Puccini aria from Tosca which Nelson Eddy had removed before the premiere because he feared Allan Jones would be a rival. This turned out to be the case. Nelson and John Boles were both vying for the part of Gaylord Ravenal in the 1936 version of Show Boat, but the role went to Allan Jones. He not only had a better voice then either of the other two but also could act circles around them. Unfortunately Allan's movie career never really revealed his true potential.
