Editorial Review:

Product Description:
After more than 20 years, Steve Vai continues to use unbridled guitar virtuosity and soulful artistry to explore the spectrum of human emotion. Vai creates a sound all his own by striking a balance between technical ability and poetic phrasing. Steve first stepped into the spotlight in 1980 as a guitarist in Frank Zappa's band. Since then he has played with other musicians including David Lee Roth, Joe Satriani, Ozzy Osborne, Public Image Limited, and Alice Cooper. These influences have had a profound effect on him and it shows in his music.

Visual Sound Theories consistes of orchestral music and other rich compostional pieces that Steve has written. Vai was commissioned to compose an hour of music for the Metropole Orkest in Holland but ended up putting together an exceptional two hours of quality work. The first CD of this double disc masterpiece has Steve conducting while the second CD contains conpositions of him playing guitar with the Orchestra. This new album is sure to impress the masses as it highlights some of Steve Vai's best work.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Hendrix Is Smiling Right Now!
Wow. This is what Hendrix maybe would have sounded if he was alive today.
Went out and brought Guitar Hero III so that I can play like Steve!
Great guitar playing with a awesome orchestra.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Awesome show!
Mr. Vai never ceases to amaze me... not only is this one of the best Orchestral/Rock performances I've seen to date, but, it is also great to see Steve do some of his old songs as well. Steve is truely a master of his craft. I highly recommend this DVD.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best enjoyed with surround sound
If you are a fan of Vai and have access to a home theater with 5.1 surround there is no excuse not to own this DVD. The sound was mixed very well. I'm not going to go on and on about how amazing the music is and how great a composer and player Steve is, if you're already a fan you should know this already. Even if you don't have a home theater or have all these songs, its worth the meager price to hear symphonic versions of the classics. Buy it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Just... Just... Blown Away!
I've written many reviews for Amazon.

I've recommended things that even suprised me!

Well Vai doesn't surprise but this video did.

What a great, mind blowing video. I'm really kinda speechless on this one but I noticed a couple of other reviews and would like to input...

1. Someone called him a Italian virtuoso. Well, I think the virtuoso claim is correct but Italian isn't. Vai happens to be Jewish.

2. Someone said "if your a Vai fan...". I really don't think you have to be a Vai fan, or a rock and roll fan, a guitar fan or whatever. I think this video has the ability to please the masses.

I think I would be hard pressed to find anyone (except a "die hard" Vai fan) who watched this entire video and said... Boy, I hated that.

It's usually the "die hards" who hate these videos when their favorite musicians start performing ... Read More
