Editorial Review:

Album Description:
Since the release of her 1986 groundbreaking album Control, Janet Jackson has done just that by taking control of her career. Her groundbreaking musical style, compelling music videos and show stopping performances have impacted the world, making her an international iconic superstar. Janet's new album 20 Y.O. is the celebration of her 20 years since taking control and shows why she remains a staple in mainstream popular music.

Note: Initial run of 20 Y.O. includes 4 different covers designed by contest winners.

Amazon.com:
Janet Jackson opens her much-hyped, post-wardrobe-malfunction return to the studio with the following proclamation: 'I've covered a lot in my 20 years, and I've uncovered a lot in my 20 years.' There's a pause, then a giggle. And then comes an honest breakdown of this disc's DNA: 'I want to have fun,' chimes Janet (or J., or Miss Jackson if you're nasty and can remember that far back). Fun, then, is what we get. With a light heart, a light vocal touch, and no shortage of quips and unstaged-sounding between-song cut-ups, Janet and her Jermaine Dupri-helmed posse pull together a Sunday afternoon picnic of a disc: 'Enjoy,' among 20 Y.O.'s standouts, hauls in a kids' choir to reinforce the keep-it-simple, spirits-skyward vibe; 'So Excited' reaches back to Herbie Hancock's 'Rockit' for a subtle retro reference point; 'Show Me' and 'Do It 2 Me' buzz along to infectious midtempo sound melanges; and 'This Body' is a heavy breather reminiscent of Damita Jo's likable smut. Nelly puts in a house call for 'Call on Me,' another easy-beezy standout and 20 Y.O.'s nod to name-dropping, but overall it's easiest to praise this fresh and frolicsome disc for what it does without--in a break from current pop customs, nothing's twitchy or trying too hard. -- Tammy La Gorce

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Janet Jackson - 20 Y.0.
Good set by Janet Jackson who has been in show business since before she was 10 years old. Her first Television show was a Variety Show with her brothers (Michael Jackson, The Jacksons) in the summer of 1976 - it did well in the Nielsen ratings, and returned in early 1977 for a couple of months. "20 Y.0." has sold 653,000 copies in the U.S. (Nielsen SoundScan 9-19-08) and is a testament to Janet Jackson's enduring popularity - someone else with enduring popularity is New York Senator Hillary Clinton, who in 2008 earned more Votes than any other Presidential Primary candidate in the history of America (hillaryclintonforum, the denver group)

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Enjoy??
NOT my favourite Janet jackson album. there's only a couple of songs I like and the rest of the songs are just average at best. I like "with u", "get it out me" "enjoy" and uh...... I can't remember any more that's how memorable this cd is! The song with nelly "call on me" is a plain jane track and was janet's attempt at trying to make a hit record. Good try miss janet. And of course, this cd is littered with those weird intros and interludes. I wish someone would tell janet to just stop already with the madness. another reason I don't like this cd is because of the cover. I accidentilly picked the worst design (the one with the janet sillouette). it looks cheap, like something you could make on your computer and print out. This is still Janet and I love her music, but this has got to be her worst record.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - average....but not bad
I would say that this album is alot better than Damita Jo, but I don't really consider this album her best but it has some good dance tracks that are worth listening to.

1. So Excited-i think she should have released this as her first single. it's much better. 5/5
2.Show Me-nice song to dance to and it's flirty. 5/5
3.Get It Out Me- good. i really like the old school beats. 4/5
4.Do It 2 Me-the beginning part with jermaine is pretty funny. 5/5
5.This Body-ewww....the beats in this song sounds horrible!!! 1/5
6.With U- this songs is cool. it's a typical r&b song. 5/5
7.Call on Me" 3 (with Nelly)-i don't think this song should have been her first single off this album. it doesn't scream "comeback" but i guess it sounds pretty nice. 3/5
8.Daybreak-this song is my favorite off the album. it's sweet and merry...reminds me of escapade...just the sugarcoated ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Never Too Late : Rediscovering the Brilliance of "20 Y.O."

Revisiting "20 Y.O" right after suffering "Discipline" is truly a revelation. For the last year, I've had "20" play at some point or the other, but it never really caught on. I was tempted to dub it a colossal waste of space (and really, from many angles, it is), but having lived with "Discipline" for over a month, anything from Janet's back catalog is going to look like a winner.

"20 Y.O" was ahead of its' time, I'm afraid. The cool sampling, the album length, and the obvious singles it contains, would have done excellently if released in 2008. At the time, they chose the wrong single ("Call on Me") and a terrible album cover, and the album tanked. But is the music bad? Not at all. Of course, if you were to compare this to either "The Velvet Rope" or "Rhythm Nation", then its definitely nowhere near the peaks of those albums, but for what its' worth, this is infinitely better than either "All for You" ...
