Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Island
Late one night, during a rainstorm, I was driving along a deserted city street, hoping to find an open coffee shop. The tshhh-tshhh-tshhh of the windshield wipers combined with the darkness had an almost hypnotic effect. Suddenly, the track "Island" came over the car radio and it seemed as though the piece was written for the mood. The station did not identify the music, so when I found a coffee shop, I telephoned the station to learn the piece was called "Island" by Art of Noise. I bought the album. "Island" is a real mood piece...gives one a sort of etherial experience. Terrific!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Superior innovative group of '80s isn't a waste
Art of Noise made four albums of orginal work throughout the '80s and Below The Waste is their fourth. Everything else produced until The Seduction Of Claude Debussey was rework. The personnel in the "group" varied with Anne Dudley and J.J. Jeczalik being the common denominator. Music of this CD ranges from African (Yebo) to Big Band (James Bond) to New Age (Island) to Techno (Dilemma). Sound samples such as fog horn, motorbikes, horses augment the wonderful music on the tracks and may prove distracting or seem silly to first time listeners. However, there is art in this noise and it is worth an effort to develop a taste for these great songs.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great album
Back to Back is the coolest song I have ever heard. The sounds that that song has is amazing!!!! That song is the reason I bought this album I love it and it overwhelms all of the other songs in everything!!!! BUY THIS CD FOR THIS ONE SONG

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - She's the Boss
Sounds like Anne Dudley took over the reins of AON for this effort, which is decent but not overwhelming. It's a pleasant album, which is something I never thought I'd say about an album by this band. Anne seems to have moved the accent from the "noise" to the "art". "Dan Dare" and "Dilemma" are pretty good, and "Yebo!" is a good try. "Finale" sounds too much like "O Sacred Head Surrounded" to be a coincidence, and "Bond" was all right until Moby showed them how to do it correctly. See if you can pick it up cheap.
