Editorial Review:

Amazon.com essential video:
There's something fishy about Rowan Atkinson's Mr. Bean. Well, sure, he's willing to store a pantry's worth of sandwich ingredients (including butter, lettuce, and live fish) in his jacket. And he's capable of changing out of long pants and into skimpy swim trunks without ever exactly taking his clothes off (an incredible feat of comedic yoga). And he does all this without saying a single word more than a barely comprehensible mutter. Yes, there's something decidedly strange about this bitter buffoon--but something very, very funny about him too. This first collection of Mr. Bean's bizarre sketches collects the cream of the crop; besides the aforementioned swimsuit sequence, there's also a cringingly laughable experience with steak tartar at a posh restaurant, a chaotic plunge into class exam etiquette, a not-so-holier-than-thou napping competition during an afternoon sermon, and a bizarre run-in with the royalty during an upscale film premiere. If you're expecting the same histrionic humor as Atkinson's other well-known alter ego, the Black Adder, prepare to be pleasantly surprised. Mr. Bean, at his best, displays a masterful mixture of subtle wit and slapstick, proving you don't need to say a word to craft a diabolically witty comeback--or dig yourself deeper and deeper into the silliest, strangest situations.--Grant Balfour

Amazon.com:
This particular collection happily includes the funniest Mr. Bean sketches of all, including Rowan Atkinson's astonishing demonstration of how to put on swim trunks--in open view at the beach--while one is still fully dressed. Even better is Bean's perfunctory stop at an afternoon church service, where he vexes a true worshipper (a terrific turn by guest Richard Briers) by nodding off, and even better than that is the twitty fellow's misadventure with steak tartar at a swank restaurant. Wait, there's more: Bean flashes his new credit card at a department store and ends up sharing a bathroom stall with an unsuspecting customer. But the best Bean sketch of all--set at a Royal reception at a theater--makes this tape a desert-island choice. --Tom Keogh

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - british physical comedy
If you like Mr. Bean, I'm sure you'll like this one.

If you don't know who Mr. Bean is, and you're American, think Kramer or Steve Martin in The Jerk, but with more British issues. Those issues seem to be a fear of looking stupid, a need to be "proper" but still satisfy your own needs...

I like these two American actors, but I'm sorry to say I couldn't stand Mr. Bean. I was held hostage during this video, honest. That is the only excuse I can offer.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Digested Beans
This is a compiled digest of the antics of Rowan Atkinson's long suffering and silent character Mr. Bean. It's a great piece of work but one wonders when the entire uncut series will be available on DVD? Hardcore fans may want to wait until the producers finally get around to it. These snippets just leave you wanting more!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Very, very funny!
A good mood-fixer. If you're in a bad mood, this is the tape you'll want to get!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Tied for the best of Mr. Bean
This, and the Christmas tape, signify the pinnacle of the Mr. Bean series. Every sketch on this tape is a winner - the day at Herrods, changing at the beach, and the classic Exam episode. Don't forget the sermon snooze, a sketch so popular that when Rowan Atkinson did a college tour of his one-man show, he included it as the only Mr. Bean sketch in the entire 90 program (the rest was closer - generally speaking - to the verbal wit of his Blackadder persona).

Lots of laughs - echoes from when Mr Bean was fresh and funny. Also, one might note that here we have the first appearence of Mr Bean's nemesis - the three wheeled car.
